A calm, step-by-step walkthrough of how to prepare and give yourself a subcutaneous injection at home, exactly as our clinical team taught you. Watch the full video, then use the checklist below any time you need a refresher.

About 2 minutes. Captions are included.

The steps at a glance

Keep this list nearby for your first few injections at home. Each step matches the video above.

  1. Step 1

Gather your supplies and wash your hands

Collect your medication vial, syringe, alcohol pads, gauze, and a sharps container. Wash your hands thoroughly before you begin.

  2. Step 2

    Clean the vial stopper

Wipe the rubber stopper with an alcohol pad and let it air dry completely before inserting the needle.

  3. Step 3

    Draw your prescribed dose

Draw air into the syringe, inject it into the vial, then draw up only the dose our clinical team prescribed for you.

  4. Step 4

Check the dose at eye level

Hold the syringe upright, remove any visible air bubbles, and confirm the dose marking matches your prescription.

  5. Step 5

Choose and rotate your injection site

Use an approved site and rotate locations each time, as our clinical team showed you during your visit.

  6. Step 6

    Clean, pinch, and inject

Clean the skin with an alcohol pad and let it dry. Pinch the skin, insert the needle at the angle you were taught, and inject steadily.

  7. Step 7

    Dispose of the syringe safely

Never recap a used needle. Apply gentle pressure with gauze and place the syringe directly into a sharps container.

Important reminders

  • Always follow the exact dose and instructions prescribed for you. This guide is a refresher, not a substitute for the training you received from our clinical team.
  • Never recap a used needle, and never reuse syringes. Place used supplies directly into a sharps container.
  • If you notice severe redness, swelling, trouble breathing, or anything that concerns you after an injection, seek medical care right away.
